A swing for the subway A group of Washington D.C. Metro riders caused quite a stir when they posted this video of their “Metro Swing” on Vimeo in 2011. The swing attaches to the metal bars of the Metro, and allows anyone to make their own seat and — if there’s room — to channel their inner 5-year-old by swinging. Though it appears to be farce, they should consider manufacturing it.

Lapka Environmental Sensor

i’m really, really pumped about this little guy. a tiny device that pushes us farther towards the Internet of Things. it also happens to be very similar in ways to my thesis project. i can’t find out who actually designed the physical device, but it’s absolutely gorgeous, and even the science and explanation on the product site is beautifully done. Lapka is described as:

“a tiny, beautifully designed personal environment monitor that connects to your phone to measure, collect and analyze the hidden qualities of your surroundings. Lapka’s precise sensors respond to the invisible world of particles, ions, molecules and waves. But Lapka doesn’t just quantify what it measures. You get results that are specific to where you are. On the street, at the office, inside a child’s bedroom, or on an airplane: the Lapka app compares its readings to average guidelines for each individual environment.
